Inside City Hall

The Farmer’s Market is still a go, even for this weekend. We have plenty of space for others who would like to sell something, anything. Bring your used car down and show it off. Who knows, someone might pay you big bucks for your clunker. All kidding aside, if you have something you would like to sell, there’s lots of traffic in and out of the market area. If you make quilts, display your quilts. If people know that we will have other stuff they will come.

Here I go again: Woodworkers, would you be interested in a Woodworkers Club? I would like to see Munday woodworkers interested in making toys for tots. There are many things we could do as a club, for one thing we could have a lot of fun. Contact me if interested, 421-3334.

I cannot believe the summer is over, especially for our school children. I’ve asked several kids if they were ready to start, some were not very enthusiastic about going to classes. Others appeared to be ready to end the boredom of summer.

Summers should not be boring. I’m asking now for help from everyone in town: let’s do something for our kids so they will have activities, summer jobs, sports activities, a lot more. Kids need something to occupy their hands and their minds. And not just in summer either, they need things to do the year around.

I have talked about vision in this column before. I’ve shared my vision and asked others to do the same. No one has shared their vision with us. Maybe they have shared it with someone else, I hope so. Hopefully everyone has heard about the Knox County Visioning Team. Munday is a contributing member of that team. However, Munday has not benefited greatly from that partnership. Why haven’t we? The short answer is: We have no vision. Add to that lack of interest, then we begin to see why we are not benefitting from the partnership. In our defense, sort of, we don’t have people with money to throw at refurbishing old buildings and turning them into hunter’s lodges or restaurants.

But, last year when Knox City and Munday hosted young couples and presented the vision plan and the dream, the "Young Guns" of Knox City stepped up and said, "We are up to the challenge." Those couples created a go kart race track, that’s going great. The couples from Munday said, "We’re interested, but we just don’t have time to do anything."

Another negative is school participation. According to the team leaders, all other county schools have been enthusiastic about working with the team. Munday has not. Munday young people are missing out on a lot of things due to this disinterest. Hopefully the Visioning Team leaders will be more successful this year in getting the cooperation from all county schools.

Munday has been fortunate over the years to have the quality of men to serve us, the people, in our Volunteer Fire Department. You did catch the Volunteer word didn’t you? These guys volunteer their time, whatever it takes, to keep us safe. No, it’s not easy for any of them because no one knows when a fire will happen. Regardless of when our volunteers are up and ready to go.
Volunteer firemen do not get paid for their work. Yes, they deserve something. If you know a fireman give him a hug the next time you see him, or at least shake his hand, and say, "Thanks for what you do for Munday." I guarantee it will make his day.

Please be in thought about the Museum Garage Sale next month, and how you can help. If you don’t have enough junk to have a sale of your own, donate it to the museum. The will appreciate it.

Market Munday whereever you go. More people are learning about Munday from our folks talking about Munday. Believe it or not people out there are interested in Munday. Several have told me they plan to come visit in the fall. We need to get ready for their visit. Christmas is coming this year. Let’s plan big for a Special Christmas in Munday.
